Happy Valentine’s Day! I hope today has brought a little extra joy and love into your life. My Valentine’s Day gift to all of my colleagues It’s hard to believe that there is only one week left of the 2025 General Assembly Legislative Session. I just presented the last of my bills in Senate committees, and many of them are quickly progressing on the Senate floor. I have also been busy hearing and voting on Senate bills that were sent over to the House for our consideration. Many bills have already passed out of both chambers and will soon be sent to the Governor, who can either sign them into law, suggest amendments, or veto the bills entirely. If the House and Senate pass […]
I have received many calls and emails over the past two weeks regarding the current administration’s reckless efforts to reduce the federal workforce and freeze federal funding. These steps not only raise serious legal and constitutional concerns, but they also imperil Virginia’s economy. Virginia is home to 145,000 federal civilian employees and even more federal contractors. Many are my constituents. We all rely on strong partnerships with federal agencies to provide critical services. I want you to know that Democrats in the General Assembly are taking this seriously and planning accordingly. That’s why Speaker Don Scott held a press conference to announce the formation of an Emergency Committee on the Impacts of Federal Workforce and Funding Reductions. This 12-member committee will include people from […]
On Wednesday night, I was devastated to hear about the tragic aviation incident that occurred near DCA. The entire community of Northern Virginia has been impacted, and the lives we lost weigh heavily on my heart. Many of my colleagues and I have been in touch with authorities, offering our help and support as our brave first responders work tirelessly conducting recovery efforts. I want to extend my sincerest condolences to the families and loved ones of the passengers, crew, and military personnel who lost their lives in this tragedy. Yesterday, the House adjourned in the honor and memory of those we lost at DCA. Watch the floor dedication here. If you believe your loved ones were on board Flight 5342, call American Airlines […]
Week two of the 2025 General Assembly Session has been incredibly busy! I met with a wide array of constituent and advocacy groups to discuss policies that serve the best interest of Virginians in my district and beyond. I also presented more of my bills in committee hearings, and many of them are moving forward with bipartisan support.  I am excited to share that two of my bills passed the House of Delegates this week and will now make their way to the Senate for further consideration: HB1886 removes the imposition of paying court fees as a required condition for deferred dismissal. Deferred dismissals are a way to give defendants (typically first-time offenders) a second chance by allowing them to complete certain court-ordered conditions […]
We just wrapped up the first full week of the 2025 General Assembly Session! I have been hard at work meeting with constituents, attending committee meetings, voting on bills, speaking at press conferences, and presenting my bills. We hit the ground running with committee hearings on critical legislation that will uplift and improve the lives of Virginians across the Commonwealth. As we continue this crucial work, I wanted to share a few updates with you. Legislative Update On Tuesday I presented my first bill before the Labor and Commerce Committee: HB1625. This bill would finally include farmworkers in Virginia’s Minimum Wage Act. Virginia’s farmers are the resilient backbone of our agricultural economy. They work tirelessly to provide a diverse range of crops and high-quality […]
