Happy (almost) Valentine’s Day! I hope tomorrow brings a little extra love and comfort into your weekend. Every year, the General Assembly celebrates Love Day with sweets, flowers, and gifts—especially to show appreciation to our administrative assistants and staff! I was busy this morning with my House colleagues handing out candy and gifts to our Legislative Support Staff, Capitol Police, Clerk Staff, and Pages throughout the building. I have also had the pleasure of welcoming constituents and advocacy groups into my office this week. With Crossover rapidly approaching, we have had to race against the clock to hear all public testimony, discuss bills thoroughly, and cast our votes before they hit the House floor. I am especially excited to announce that this week, six […]
We just wrapped up the fourth week of session! I am particularly happy to announce that this week, three of my bills (HB329, HB330, and HB331) all passed the House. Each one delivers on my commitment to protect the rights of Virginia’s tenants, find sustainable, dedicated funding for transportation, and ensure justice for all. With most of the snow and ice gone, it was great to welcome constituents back in my office this week. I have been putting in 12+ hour days to complete our work before Crossover. That means really long subcommittee and committee meetings to ensure that we hear all public testimony, discuss bills thoroughly, and cast our votes before they hit the House floor. Keep reading to find out what I have been […]
Despite the icy conditions here in Richmond, the General Assembly was still hard at work on behalf of Virginians! This week was packed with committee meetings, press conferences, and taking actions on the House floor. Because of the weather, many constituents were unable to make it down to visit the Capitol this week, but I am looking forward to welcoming you all to my office in the coming weeks to continue discussing your priorities and gathering your feedback. This week, I was appointed to serve on another Public Safety subcommittee, Subcommittee #3 – this makes a total of 10 committees and subcommittees that I serve on. I am looking forward to working on critical legislation in this subcommittee with my Public Safety colleagues. Keep reading to […]
We’ve just wrapped up the second week of session! I had a busy and productive week meeting with advocacy groups from around Virginia, chairing my first subcommittee meetings, presenting my first bills of the session, and participating in activities throughout the General Assembly building. In addition to being appointed Vice Chair of the Public Safety Committee, I have also been appointed Chairwoman of two subcommittees on General Laws: Procurement & Open Government and Subcommittee #5. This is a new, exciting opportunity and I am honored to help lead these important committees. I’ve included some key updates below from our second week here in Richmond. Additionally, as we anticipate a major winter storm this weekend, I’ve made sure to include a list of helpful resources at the bottom […]
We just wrapped up the first week of the 2026 General Assembly Session! I have had the opportunity to meet with constituents, attend my first committee meetings and press conferences of the year, and proudly vote in favor of important constitutional amendments. I am also tremendously honored to have been named Vice Chair of the House Public Safety Committee. This has been an exciting first week back and I have several updates to share with you. Legislative Updates On Wednesday, four important constitutional amendments passed the house floor. I proudly voted in favor of HJ 1, HJ 2, HJ 3, and HJ 4. These amendments will safeguard reproductive freedom, marriage equality, voter protections, and democracy. Now that it has passed the Senate, these will be on the […]
Tomorrow is the last day of the 2025 General Assembly Legislative Session! Over the past two months, I have worked hard to ensure that YOUR priorities were reflected in this year’s legislative agenda. I met with many constituents and advocacy groups, collaborated with a variety of stakeholders, and shared your feedback with my colleagues. We were able to make a great deal of progress in such a short period of time, and I am eager to share some of our accomplishments. I am beyond excited that all 13 of my priority bills successfully passed the General Assembly and are now just one signature away from becoming law! From making childcare more affordable to protecting tenants’ rights and preventing gun violence, these pivotal pieces of […]
Happy Valentine’s Day! I hope today has brought a little extra joy and love into your life. My Valentine’s Day gift to all of my colleagues It’s hard to believe that there is only one week left of the 2025 General Assembly Legislative Session. I just presented the last of my bills in Senate committees, and many of them are quickly progressing on the Senate floor. I have also been busy hearing and voting on Senate bills that were sent over to the House for our consideration. Many bills have already passed out of both chambers and will soon be sent to the Governor, who can either sign them into law, suggest amendments, or veto the bills entirely. If the House and Senate pass […]
I have received many calls and emails over the past two weeks regarding the current administration’s reckless efforts to reduce the federal workforce and freeze federal funding. These steps not only raise serious legal and constitutional concerns, but they also imperil Virginia’s economy. Virginia is home to 145,000 federal civilian employees and even more federal contractors. Many are my constituents. We all rely on strong partnerships with federal agencies to provide critical services. I want you to know that Democrats in the General Assembly are taking this seriously and planning accordingly. That’s why Speaker Don Scott held a press conference to announce the formation of an Emergency Committee on the Impacts of Federal Workforce and Funding Reductions. This 12-member committee will include people from […]
On Wednesday night, I was devastated to hear about the tragic aviation incident that occurred near DCA. The entire community of Northern Virginia has been impacted, and the lives we lost weigh heavily on my heart. Many of my colleagues and I have been in touch with authorities, offering our help and support as our brave first responders work tirelessly conducting recovery efforts. I want to extend my sincerest condolences to the families and loved ones of the passengers, crew, and military personnel who lost their lives in this tragedy. Yesterday, the House adjourned in the honor and memory of those we lost at DCA. Watch the floor dedication here. If you believe your loved ones were on board Flight 5342, call American Airlines […]
Week two of the 2025 General Assembly Session has been incredibly busy! I met with a wide array of constituent and advocacy groups to discuss policies that serve the best interest of Virginians in my district and beyond. I also presented more of my bills in committee hearings, and many of them are moving forward with bipartisan support. I am excited to share that two of my bills passed the House of Delegates this week and will now make their way to the Senate for further consideration: HB1886 removes the imposition of paying court fees as a required condition for deferred dismissal. Deferred dismissals are a way to give defendants (typically first-time offenders) a second chance by allowing them to complete certain court-ordered conditions […]
